what is corten?
Corten steel is not a new material, the date of development of this alloy dates back to the 1830s, its chemical composition was developed by the United States Steel Corporation. It was 1933 and there was a deep economic crisis in the world market, which contributed to the search for cheaper alternatives to ordinary structural steel, which is not resistant to weathering and requires additional costs for surface protection (painting, galvanizing), there are also costs for its subsequent maintenance.
After many trials it was possible to develop an alloy called Corten, it was still a structural steel, but with the addition of several important elements (copper, nickel, phosphorus), which made the new product weatherproof and did not generate additional maintenance costs.
